Dear Justin,

We all have habits that typically involve consuming more energy than we would like to. For instance, some of us turn down the thermostat a few extra degrees during the hot summer months, leave the lights on when leaving a room, or allow a window to remain open when your HVAC system is running. The fact of the matter is, however, we can all make minor changes to our living conditions that will result in lesser costs on your energy bills. At Nortek Environmental, Inc., we have done some research in order to provide you with a few energy saving tips that you can do to lower your energy costs.

HVAC Energy Saving Tips

There are several minor changes that a homeowner can make towards their heating and cooling needs in order to save on their energy bill. Some possible strategies include:

  • Using trees to shade your home to reduce cooling costs.
  • Sealing air leaks around windows.
  • Not placing thermostats near objects that give off heat (i.e. lamps or televisions). This will give your thermostat an improper reading.
  • Keeping in mind that setting your thermostat at a colder temperature than normal does not cool your home quicker, it just makes your air conditioner run longer, wasting energy.
  • Look for a high Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ration (SEER) on your Air Conditioner. Keep in mind that the current minimum SEER is 13.

Other Helpful Tips

Along with changes you can make to your HVAC system, there are even more changes you can make to your home outside of your heating and cooling needs:

  • When changing the wall colors in a room, consider lighter colors as they will require less artificial lighting.
  • Swap out your normal light bulbs with the energy efficient light bulbs.
  • Clean out your car. Excess weight can cause a higher gas consumption.
  • Turn off your lights when leaving a room. A good rule of thumb is to only keep the lights on when you know you will be returning to the room in less than 15 minutes.
  • Don't always use your car's air conditioning. If the outside temperature is fairly moderate, put the windows down instead.

Nortek Environmental, Inc.'s Referral Rewards Program

We'd also like to take a moment of your time to remind you of our Referral Rewards Program. This is how it works: if you know anyone who is in need of replacing their furnace and/or air conditioner, tell them to call Nortek Environmental, Inc. and request a quote. When requesting a quote, they will be asked how they were referred to Nortek Environmental, Inc. Just make sure that they give your name when asked. Should they decide to go through with the installation of a new furnace and/or air conditioner with us, we will give you $100. It's as easy as that!

Remember that Nortek Environmental, Inc. offers a Special Package if you plan on getting both your furnace and your air conditioner maintained through us during the year ahead of time.Call us today at (630) 548-1500 to learn more about the Nortek Environmental, Inc.
